2013 Mainstage Season Audition

WINNIE-THE-POOH
Auditions: Tuesday, April 23 or Wednesday, April 24
By Kristen Sergel
Based on the stories by A. A. Milne
June 14-23, 2013

Audition Tips
There are some general guidelines and tips that everyone auditioning should always keep in mind.

Be polite and respectful. Wait for your turn quietly. Your audition begins when you first arrive at SCCT and does not end until you leave the building. An attitude of disrespect in any way can cost you a role in the show. Don't talk, make faces, or laugh at other auditioners, etc. when it is not your turn. How you act matters as much as how well you act.
Be properly prepared. If a monologue is required, pick one and allow yourself time to learn it well. Find out if audition sides are available in advance. Try to find out the roles that are available - and what the director is looking for. If a song is required, pick some type of show tune that is age-appropriate. Be sure to pick a song in your range. It is more important to pick a song that is right for you, than just to pick a song because it is well known. Work with a teacher at school, a choral director at your church or ask the advice of a vocal coach ahead of time. Always do your homework!
Dress appropriately. Keep your hair out of your face and hands out of pockets. Wear shoes you can move in.
Things to bring: Bring head shot or photo to every audition. Bring your schedule so you can check conflicts. Resumes are great as well.
When it's your turn to audition: Introduce yourself. Project! Articulate! Have a positive attitude! Show us high energy! Don't worry if you make a mistake. Don't be afraid to ask to start over.
Don't say you can't do something. Try it. Directors want casts who are willing to take chances.
After the audition: Think about what you have learned. Then forget about "how you did". SO many factors affect casting that it is a waste of time to worry about it. Feel good about yourself. There are MANY people that would not have the courage to audition - and you did! Come back and try again if you don't get cast this time!
